Advising
Undergraduate students can pursue either a major or a minor in Portuguese. Portuguese can also be used to fulfill a foreign language requirement for certain departments. If you already know or are learning Spanish, Portuguese is your best next option for professional, intellectual, and practical reasons.
We are currently revising our undergraduate curriculum. But if you are interested in pursuing a major or minor please contact Prof. Luciano Tosta for more information (lutosta@illinois.edu). Consider studying abroad, if Portuguese is a concentration area for you. All SIP Department Portuguese study abroad programs count for the major and minor in Portuguese. It is a faster and fun way to earn credits.
For information about the activities of the Luso-Brazilian Association, please contact graduate students Carla da Silva (cdasilv2@illinois.edu), Helade Santos (hsantos2@illinois.edu) or Vivian Felicio (felicio2@illinois.edu). The Luso-Brazilian Association organizes the Portuguese language tables, lectures, film viewing and other events for those interested in practicing Portuguese and learning more about Brazilian culture.
